
Does an open-standards approach create big savings for companies implementing unified communications (UC)? That’s the contention of some UC vendors, which are encouraging clients to embrace a best-of-breed approach where a combination of UC components are melded together, rather than provided by a single, all-in-one solution. Increasingly, there are two schools of thought being delineated in the UC space. Market forces and a push for lower costs have spurred some vendors to take an open standards approach and ensure interoperability of their solutions with companion technologies.
